Cartoon Crossroads Columbus believes that Black Lives Matter. We stand with those in the comics community who are speaking out against systemic racism in our society and against police brutality that disproportionately affects people of color, as well as the white supremacy that lies beneath.
Although silence is not an option, we also acknowledge that words alone are meaningless. To that end, we are developing a set of actions to better our organization, our city, and our comics world. These include but are not limited to providing more tabling, presenting, and leadership opportunities for BIPOC and the strengthening of connections to Black and Indigenous creators and Columbus community members. We acknowledge that meaningful and effective changes can only be done with the input and leadership from marginalized communities, so our plans are still in active development.
CXC is dedicated to building a better comics world, but that means building a better society, industry, and creative community. As recent social media around the pay inequality for black comics creators has shown, that is impossible if we cannot reckon with the history and continuing impacts of white privilege and white supremacy. We must take this moment as an opportunity to do so – and we look forward to proving our dedication to you, our community.
