Animation Restoration at Universal Studios presented by Chase Schulte, NBCUniversal

Learn about efforts to preserve the history of animation at Universal Studios with this presentation featuring some of its most popular characters, including DreamWorks favorites!

In this presentation, Chase Schulte, Ohio State alum and manager of Physical Archive Operations at NBCUniversal—which acquired DreamWorks Animation in 2016—walks us through a wealth of archival material that reaches back to the 1940s. You’ll see a selection of rarely seen entries from Woody Woodpecker creator Walter Lantz’s “Cartunes” library—fully restored from 35mm nitrate, successive exposure original negatives. The program also features work-in-progress restorations from classic animation series including Mr. MagooGeorge of the Jungle, and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe; animated storyboards; and other creative materials from DreamWorks Animation franchises—as well as some surprises from the DVD bonus cabinet! Attendees will also get a behind-the-scenes look at library curation projects from United Productions of America (UPA) including artwork and character development sketches of Gerald McBoing-Boing and others. (program approx. 60 mins., 35mm)
